The painting that inspired me for "Taki"

Carp running upsteream in front of my house in Japan. This carps inspired me for “Nokomi” series.

Ms. Takahashi is making japanese traditional paper Mino-Washi in her atelier. I used this paper for “Nokomi” series.

This is the painting named "Nachitakizu" (160.7x58.8cm) that inspired my waterfall series, which dates from the 13th-14th century and is now designated a national treasure.HisThis painting is currently housed at the Nezu Museum in Tokyo.

Waterfalls are a place of mystery for me where I f

Waterfalls are a place of mystery for me where I feel an indescribable, inhuman presence that both frightens and intrigues me. There is a painting entitled “Painting of Nachi waterfall” which, for 14 centuries, was believed to incarnate divinity. The first time I saw this painting, I saw nothing more than an elegant brushstroke on a dark background. Only after did I discover all the details and depth it contained, and renew with my initial, contradictory impression of waterfalls. « Taki » is a contemporary translation of this painting.
